Hi, Peanuts lovers Today, certainly a play on words: What I think is: actually only talk shows exist, so Snoopy invents a new concept for dogs. Is that so? Or is there something else?

I think it's a comment on the quality of communication on talk shows: Snoopy's barking is a much of a contribution as any of the other stuff being said. It might as well be a show where everyone barks into the phone.

Hello, Snoopy talks by barking. His barking is as good as a human's talking! Humans have Talk Shows; dogs have Bark Shows. Remember, Snoopy is the most imaginative (if not the smartest) character in Peanuts. An insult to Talk Shows is possible, but not necessary here. IMNSHO. Dancelover I think it's a comment on the quality of communication on talk shows: Snoopy's barking is a much of a contribution as any of the other stuff being said. It might as well be a show where everyone barks into the phone.

My guess would be it's a simple joke. Some dogs like to bark (to get attention) when people are talking. Snoopy's final line is a change of talk show to bark show. Wikipedia indicated that from 1960 onward talk radio grew in popularity, so the image in the title panel and the time this strip was written people would understand Snoopy wasn't barking at music.

I also believe that Snoopy just wanted to give his point of view. Maybe he doesn't really understand what people are saying, it sounds like barking to him. But I do believe that Snoopy is very clever, understands human language, and can also use a phone. So he must consider that all these talkings are funny, and he likes to participate.
