Sure thing. At around 10:03 in this video, Karan asks Deepika: "So, you're not in love with Ranbir now?" This was in response to Deepika saying she was open about her relationship with Ranbir at the time because she felt she was in love with him. I watched the Farhan-Vidya episode today and thought it was pretty snooze-worthy. Karan continues to ask the most insipid and dull questions he can think of. Akshay Kumar is set to appear next week, so I hope that episode is a bit better. Yeah, that's exactly the spot I meant, I'm pretty sure Karan said "so you're not in love with Ranveer now" since she'd just said she talked about the previous relationship (with Ranbir) because she believed to be really in love with him (Karan thereby hinting that her not talking about Ranveer now might be because she's not in love with Ranveer - i.e. dating but not 'in love'). That's what I got from it. ETA: Also, considering that Deepika has never even admitted to dating him, I don't think she would've answered Karan's question if it pertained to Ranveer. As for Farhan Vidya, yeah, I kinda guessed his humour will be pretty minimal and low-key, not the cheesy kind Karan puts up in this persona. It was sweet of him to offer the quiz prize to Vidya, and she was passive aggressive in refusing it, but still, the quiz, as you said, is really becoming the best part of the show. Interesting Farhan seemed the least competitive of them all, so far. I re-watched it a couple of times and was sure Karan said Ranbir. It would make more sense to me, given the context. (Deepika said she was once in love with Ranbir, so Karan was prompted to ask if she was still in love with him now. I don't think it would make as much sense for him to phrase his question as "So you're not in love with [him] now?" if he was referring to Ranveer who is a current relationship and not a past one. Plus Deepika's subsequent explanation confirmed that it was Ranbir to me; she said she wasn't in love with him (Ranbir) now because they were two different people who couldn't work out and because of that relationship, she is now scared to invest emotionally etc etc.) But even if Karan was referring to Ranveer, I think my point still stands. Karan was more or less implying that Deepika did not feel as strongly about Ranveer because she was still hung up over Ranbir. Agree with your thoughts on the Farhan-Vidya episode. Odadune - Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Akshay episode. There seems to be a teasing atmosphere to the whole thing which seems like fun. Plus, I'd totally love to see Karan having to answer his own rapid fire questions.

extended preview for tomorrow's episode: movies.ndtv.com/videos/akshay-kumar-s-koffee-with-an-ullu-305565Word of warning: in addition to the above, I've seen some print quote from articles determined to spoil all the 'best' bits (somewhat ala the RanBebo episode). I don't think this will be the nonstop innuendo fest that Farhan/Vidya was, but when it gets raunchy, it gets pretty weird, with Akshay referencing the Levis Unbuttoned controversy he was in years ago, and Karan...well, I think I get what he was going for with the little rant towards the end of the promo above, but it comes out...wrong.

So, the Akshay episode. I had my expectations seriously lowered by the ZOMGOSH AKKI IS AN ARROGANT DEFENSIVE MEANIE WHO IS MEAN TO KJO comments on Pinkvilla and twitter, and on watching I discovered that he came off about the way he usually does in interviews, only liberated from having to deliver the usual soundbites about his latest release: an earnest, deliberate person with a somewhat warped (and occasionally crude) sense of humor, a bit frustrated at his own never-ending struggle with the English language. Basically, if you don't like him in general, this isn't going to change your mind, if you do like him and have seen him in English language interviews, there's not going to be a lot to surprise you. (Except maybe the raunchier bits of humor). What's interesting about this one is the way that it felt like Koffee With Karan: Deconstructed. {Click to view!} Almost the first thing going on is Karan getting told that his show stirs up controversies and hard feelings and is asked why he feels like he needs to do this, from there we get a fourth-wall-breaking reference to the technicians working on the show, and the fact that they probably do have to get up in the morning and go to work at a fixed time, unlike the Bollywood elites who roll out of bed whenever. And from there we get the two-way rapid-fire round, with Akshay submitting to the usual nonsense before asking Karan a handful of silly/surreal questions (I'd be prepared to bet his wife came up with them; they strike kind of the same tone as her DNA column). And we got another round of breaking the fourth wall at the end, at the end, when Akshay thanks Karan for giving him questions he could handle and helping him out when he had trouble with them. Karan seemed more put-out at Akshay breaking down the artifice of the show (reference to the technicians, the bit at the end) than Akshay calling Karan an "ullu" (an owl, an animal stereotypically seen in India as sluggish and stupid) or his show an invitation for people to badmouth each other or being subjected to rapid-fire round. Karan seemed amused by all three but was playing up the mock-indignation and mock-stress for laughs.
Non-meta parts that I liked: Karan squeaking out his welcome in the midst of one of Akki's rib-crushing bearhugs. The story about Tina/Twinkle telling her future husband "If Mela (starring her, Aamir Khan, and Aamir's brother Faisal) doesn't run, I'll get married," followed by Mela tanking dramatically. Akki's parody of his wife ragging him about being a nobody compared to her National-Award winning parents felt very affectionate. Akshay mentioning in passing, with regard to Salman's kind words about him on an earlier episode, that Salim Khan was fond of him-Akshay. Also, we get as much of Akshay's version of the Joker fiasco as we're ever likely to. Akshay attempting to bolt out the door after the rapid fire round. The teasing of Sajid Khan (Farah's brother, the Housefull/Heyy Babyy director) in the rapid-fire round seemed friendly and confirmed to me that the stories about Akshay feuding with him were overblown. I won't defend Akki's a$$ jokes in the rapid fire round. They were inappropriate. They did make me laugh, but a lot of that is his famous comic timing, and in one place it was due to Kjo's shocked/trying not to laugh reaction to the line about SRK. The "Levis Unbuttoned" reference...also inappropriate, but seemed to come from a place of "If you ask stupid, objectionable questions, I will respond in kind." Ranking Deepika first: thanks to the paparazzi, we pretty much know for a fact that the last Bollywood movie he saw at the theater was Ram Leela, and Deepika's performance in that has been almost universally praised. Praising her may also be his way of distancing himself from the Chennai Express vs. Dobaara controversies. Best deleted scenes: him refusing to rank "most stunning actresses" when Aishwarya wasn't included. Mostly it's a way of getting out of a question with no good answers, but it's a nice show of loyalty to a woman and a family he and his wife are somewhat friendly with, and cool that he is praising a wife and mother for her looks. Answer to the question about "pick an actress you would take to a romantic dinner if you weren't married": Dimple Kapadia, ie his mother-in-law. ("And talk to her all night long about her daughter.")

Anyone catch the Emraan Hashmi/Mahesh Bhatt episode? It was a new level of arrogance.

Anyone catch the Emraan Hashmi/Mahesh Bhatt episode? It was a new level of arrogance. Mahesh Bhatt grates on me intensely, even though I like some of the movies he's had a hand in*, so I skipped that one. I gather they spent a lot of time settling old scores and saying things to be provocative or contrary. It seems to have been well-received online, in the sense of giving people who watch KWK exactly what they come to see. *Basically, I feel the same way about him that I do about Salim-Javed, only more so.

Did anyone else watch the Madhuri and Juhi episode? I liked it a lot and thought it was a really cute interview. Juhi surprised me, she was a lot more honest and blunt than I thought she would be, since she usually has a reputation for being very diplomatic, if I remember correctly. There were also some really funny moments, like their reactions when Karan asked them if they knew who Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor were dating, Ranveer dancing to "Dhak Dhak Karne Laga" and Ghoonghat Ki Aad se Dilbar Ka", and the quiz towards the end.

Agreed. I really appreciated Juhi's honesty and candor. Also, she and Madhuri had a nice dynamic; they were relaxed and comfortable with each other, but weren't trying too hard/acting like they were BFFs.

I agree that Juhi was the life of the episode. Madhuri looked somehow bored and tired, even though she came alive as the epi progressed. It was shot during the mad promotions of Dedh Ishqiya, so I guess she was tired.
