That Love Actually scene rip-off was just blatant and not done well.
Here are my comments from the Recently Watched thread about Dilwale:
"Isn't it weird when you think you're going to love a movie and then really dislike it or the reverse? I thought I would love Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and didn't and I had very low expectations going into Dilwale, but I just watched Dilwale and really enjoyed it. I think the low expectations helped. Also a bearded SRK in a white henley that gets rained on....I'm not a SRK fangirl normally but if he looked like this in all of his movies from now on, I'd happily be a fangirl. No surprise, the best part was the SRK-Kajol chemistry and my concerns about her styling were unwarranted. She looked beautiful and age appropriate the whole film. I thought the hate/love story line was hot and the scene with the car on the cliff was OTT perfection. Varun and Kriti's story line was fine if underserved...their friends' romance was much cuter.
I'm surprised that of the big four films at the end of the year, so far Dilwale is my favorite and one I want to rewatch and own. Still have to watch Bajirao Mastani."
Some additional thoughts: I liked Johnny Lever and the comedy moments much more in this than I expected and am I right that the two uncles who owned the cafe were life partners? (If so, great!)
Varun is Uday Chopra in this! Having seen Badlapur, I know he's capable of better acting and he really needs to do more like that before his career starts to plateau. I, too, would have preferred a big group dance number at the end instead of the fight scene. The end credits number was disappointing but that "Janam Janam" song is beautiful even if chronologically SRK should have been bearded in that picturization (I know I'm a little fixated on SRK's beard).
