Hi everybody who speaks native American language, I am reading The Complete Peanuts, and in the year 1979, I found this strip: Is Snoopy speaking of late Leslie Nielsen? Could it be a reference to a movie? I admit I don't really understand the joke

Hi everybody who speaks native American language, I am reading The Complete Peanuts, and in the year 1979, I found this strip: Is Snoopy speaking of late Leslie Nielsen? Could it be a reference to a movie? I admit I don't really understand the joke patapin Snoopy is referring to the Nielsen rating system for American Television. And in the Peanuts cartoons Snoopy would refer to someone as Joe "whatever" as a sort of nickname for that thing. Snoopy might refer to Shahrukh Khan as "Joe Bollywood". The Nielsen rating system had people tracking in their homes what shows they watched by filling out extensive diaries. Then in later years it moved to a set top box that would track changing of channels, and watching of programs for shorter times than the full program length. Nielsen was the monopoly of ratings for TV -- determining ad revenues by which shows they rated as having the most viewers. Nielsen may still exist, but TV Networks now demand more nuanced ratings -- including DVR and online viewings later in the week. Hope that helps!

Hi mmoviemavengal, thanks! I was on a wrong track. I thought Snoopy was being as wishy-washy as Nielsen, and it was strange, because the most wishy-washy one is actually Charlie Brown. I knew about the "Joe" expression, but you did well remembering me. I shall come back with other Peanuts strips! Have a nice day
