And on the Second Day, Shaandar ... crashed. Thursday 11.75 (holiday opening) Friday only 7.25 crore. Box Office India: "It is a sorry state ... when it is Lights Out for a big film before the weekend begins ..." Clearly, Alia needs more than one state! Shahid needs better scriptwriters. Didn't he once know a guy called Shakespeare? Dancelover

Here's another review that loves it: In defence of 'Shaandaar'. We're hoping to see it over the weekend, before it disappears.

I enjoyed it. Loads of fun and the other audience members seemed to be enjoying it too, plenty of laughs to be heard. I'm glad I had seen episodes of Koffee with Karan so appreciated the 'Mehendi with Karan' scenes.

I loved it, but can see how it polarises opinions. It has a deliberate sustained wackiness in the same way as Jaan-e-Mann or Joker that, if you decide to go along with it, can be really entertaining, or it might annoy the hell out of you. For me, all the daftness worked: the OMG girls (rather like the vengeful sluts of My Best Friend's Wedding), the eight-and-a-half pack himbo, the magic mushroom scene, Mehndi With Karan, Alia Bhatt's moustache-under-a-moustache, the light sabre fight, the Sindhi jokes, the cartoon interludes, Ashok the frog, characters' ability to see into each other's flashbacks, and even the notion that anyone could wear a bikini on a beach in Yorkshire without freezing to death. Performances are good throughout, with everyone entering into the spirit of the thing, treating all the weirdness as normal. Alia Bhatt is finally looking old enough for a consensual relationship, Shahid Kapoor is reliably charming, and Pankaj Kapur is the solid heart of the film. Sanjay Kapoor meanwhile has a ball hamming it up as head of a bling-flaunting Sindhi clan. Only Sushma Seth did not quite hit the right note for me, but she was very funny during the wedding scene. I also liked the music, especially Gulaabo and Senti Wali Mental, which really has to be seen to be appreciated. I can't exactly recommend Shaandaar, as many people will not like it at all. But it's one of my favourite films of the year so far.

*SPOILERS*
It's a nice movie not has horible as critics had made it out to be. The problem is that the director didn't go full out with his idea, it was a rom-com which was supposed to be quirky but only some situations were. The cast was good but some of the characters were poorly written.
I can't understand why the movie was sold on insomnia when it didn't really have an importance in the movie. I was expecting more night scenes and bonding between Shahid and Alia at night.
The destination wedding idea was good. But I would have liked for Alia's sister to turn into a bridezella ; it sure would have been fun and would have completed that crazy bunch of people.
What I found ironic though is how Shahid's character fell for Alia's at first sight and then was all "the beauty inside is all that count" when Alia's sister was made fun of by her fiancé. It was quite a contradiction.

It looks like the screenwriter missed a great comeback line: "but you are the one who fell for outward beauty!"
